(HARTFORD, CT, 7/17/2026) — The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today commended Representative Jahana Hayes for voting to oppose $3.3 billion in new funding for the Israeli government genocide and strongly condemned the four members of the state’s congressional delegation who voted in favor of using more American taxpayers money to fund genocide, rape and sexual violence of Israeli government.
Democrats voting to maintain the funding were Reps. Jim Himes, Rosa DeLauro, John Larson, and Joe Courtney. The House of Representatives ultimately failed to pass Amendment No. 8 to H.R. 8595, offered by Rep. Thomas Massie, in a 104-314 vote (https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2026243). However, a record number of members voted against the funding, including a majority of Democrats.
In a statement, CAIR-Connecticut Chairman Farhan Memon said:
“We commend Congresswoman Jahana Hayes for voting to stop spending American taxpayer dollars to fund war crimes and sexual violence and we strongly condemn the 4 members of our state’s congressional delegation who voted in support of a barbaric war criminal government.
“Americans deserve representatives who protect their tax dollars and the future of American children in education and healthcare, not those who waste the American tax dollars to fund a foreign state that has a history of attacking American assets and values and a state of terrorism that is raping women and children. When we see that a majority of Democrats voted to stop wasting American tax money – while CT representatives still seem to favor a foreign country over Americans – we need to think of loyalty.
“The political spectrum is changing all over America and Connecticut is part of the country, Connecticut voters have enough information on who works for America and who is destroying American values and serve the interests of a foreign country. They can decide who leads Connecticut in the future.
